Identity for a theatrical play

Brief

Design the identity for a play written by a cancer survivor

Concept

Nancy Rappaport survived breast cancer. Her experience led her to reflect on life, death and her illness in a most poignant way. She collected these reflections in a one-woman play, Regeneration.

I created the identity around two principles:
(1) Interpret typographically what it means to “regenerate”,
(2) Visualizing the emotional struggle behind the struggle of recovering from cancer.

Through typography, I drew something that has been eroded over time—a thin stencil typeface, to something that is renewed and is strongly present—the bold weight.

Nancy Rappaport will be performing 6 shows throughout Autumn 2016: this is the visual identity she (and the venues hosting the performances) will use for all of her shows.
